Govt. Degree College, Ghagwal affiliated to University of Jammu was established in the year 2019, by the Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir. In the beginning only the subject in Arts stream were offered.. There are 04 permanent faculty members and 02 academic arrangement teachers in the college. Teaching staff of the college, with an excellent background and experience, are trying their level best in shaping the personality of the students so that they can compete at National and International level. The college has a total strength of approximately 258 students. It is just a beginning but we are confident that with the effective support of all the stakeholders, an exemplary history will be written by developing the Govt. Degree College, Ghagwal as an institution of an excellence, not only in academics but also in extension activities.

Ghagwal is a town and Panchayat in Samba district in the Jammu division of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is located 15 kilometres from district headquarters Samba. River Baein flows from east side of Ghagwal. Famous 1750 years old, Narsingh Dham Mandir is situated in Middle of Ghagwal and is also known as "Heart of Ghagwal". Before 2006 Ghagwal was part of Kathua District of Jammu Division. Ghagwal Town is Also Headquarter of Tehsil and Sub Division Office of Ghagwal. Govt. According to the 2011 census of India, Ghagwal has 312 households.[2] The literacy rate of Ghagwal village was 83.56% compared to 67.16% of Jammu and Kashmir. In Kalarooch, Male literacy stands at 91.72% while the female literacy rate was 75.08%.
